World Sanskrit Day was celebrated at Rishihood University on 12th August 2021. The event happened in an hybrid mode where people joined from campus as well as online on zoom and the entire event was broadcasted on Rashtram and Rishihood University’s YouTube channels. The event was graced by the presence of Dr Bal Ram Singh ji, Professor and President at Institute of Advanced Sciences, Dartmouth, as the Chief Guest.
The event started with the chanting of the invocation mantra by Rashtram learners, Namrata, Gajendra, Suprabha, Soumesha and Sanjam. After the invocation, Dr Sampadananda Mishra gave the welcome address, which he started by an invocation to Lord Shiva. He explained the need to learn and understand Sanskrit in order to understand the essence of Indian life and ethos. He made an appeal to everyone to pledge to learn Sanskrit and propagate it amongst the youth of this nation.
The Rashtram learners, then, paid an homage to the nation by singing her glory in Sanskrit. After this, Soumeshwar, Gajendra, Sanjam, Suprabha, Vikash and Sri Hari shared their respective experience with the Dev Bhasha with everyone.
In his address, the esteemed chief guest, Dr Bal Ram Singh ji, talked about the origin of Sanskrit and the discrepancy between the Indian as well as the western thought regarding its origin. He highlighted the value of Sanskrit as being more than just a language but rather being the essence of the Indian culture. Referring to Panini’s Grammar, Dr Singh explained how Sanskrit came much later in the progression and evolution of languages and attested with the structural perfection and intricate structure of the language. He also spoke on the distinction between the ancient and modern theology. He explained the physical benefits of speaking Sanskrit and how it benefits us.
The event ended with the vote of thanks delivered in Sanskrit and the chanting of Om three times.
