What is Jal Fellowship

Jal Fellowship is a unique field-based experiential learning opportunity created to incubate water leaders who can actively lead and facilitate the sustainable solutions to water challenges in their local community, with confidence and commitment.

Jal Fellowship is designed to fully equip the candidates with the right and relevant mindset, knowledge, skills as well as network that enable them to take a lead in mobilising and engaging their community and facilitating relevant solutions.

On completion of the programme, candidates will become water leaders by starting to earn the trust and confidence of the local community. Accordingly they will be able to work in their respective districts as District Water Leaders.

Water Crisis Has a Local Context

Solving it requires a sound understanding of the nature of the problem.

Water crisis is complex and requires local community involvement and ownership.

This requires someone to lead and facilitate community-led and community owned solutions.

Therefore, Rishihood University is launching the field-based certificate programme to seed District Water Leaders across all the 750 districts of India.

  • The curriculum is spread over 40 weeks

Who Should Apply

You should apply if:

  • Your age is between 21 to 35 years
  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline
  • You are passionate about making a difference to water/environment/community

Programme Details

Duration: 10 Months

Programme Fee: INR 75000
*As a University, we seek sponsorship from various stakeholders to encourage candidates passionate about water conservation to pursue flourishing careers. The sponsorship fund is directed towards a large scholarship corpus. Deserving candidates are offered scholarships towards the tuition fee of the programme. Candidates will need to bear travel expenses related to field work within their district.

Application Process

The programme has a rolling admission process, with new batch of learners introduced every few months. Once selected, applicants will be informed the batch start date well ahead of time.

Dr. Bhakti Devi (BE (Civil), ME (Environmental), PhD) is a former Strategist to Sydney Water Corporation & City of Sydney. She is the founder of two water impact & capacity building platforms – Jalsmruti & Urban Water Doctor. An active champion and expert of community-led decentralised water systems, Dr. Bhakti has over 30 years of experience working in diverse functions across the value chain of the water system, namely -strategy, policy, planning, capacity building, design and operations.

Rajiv Ranjan Mishra (B Tech (Mechanical) and IAS (1987) is the former Director General, National Mission for Clean Ganga (in the rank of Secretary to Government of India). He presently serves as the Chairman, Strategy & Policy Unit, National Institute of Urban Affairs. He is also co-author of the book “Ganga: Re-Imagining, Rejuvenating, Re-Connecting”.
