About National Tinkering Awards

The spirit to innovate, experiment, and tinker is a foundational attitude that we should help develop in our students. To do this, we have launched the ‘National Tinkering Awards’. In these awards, students will come up with solutions to everyday problems.

Organized with an aim to provide recognition and industry support to budding entrepreneurs, the National Tinkering Awards 2021 will also uplift their entrepreneurial spirit by providing them necessary tech-mentorship and guidance. It is a national level competition of original ideas and innovations. Your Ideas can be anywhere from hardware machines to software application, but they must be capable enough to resolve a particular challenge in your community, or in a particular industry, and must have a defined target audience.

Themes for National Tinkering Awards 2021

  2. Sustainability – conserve resources at home and/or in your community 
  3. Health and wellbeing –  improve healthcare at home

The participants will receive 3 masterclasses on tinkering. The masterclasses are free of cost and will help the students derive lifelong learning from this competition.

What is National Tinkering Awards 2021?

To promote creativity and originality of technology start-up & entrepreneurship ideas in students, National Tinkering Awards 2021 is being organized collaboratively by Rishihood University & Tinkerly. It’s a national level competition of original technological ideas and innovations in grade 10, 11, 12, passing out from 12.

Why National Tinkering Awards 2021?

National Tinkering Awards 2021 is aimed at boosting creativity among students who want to be an agent of change in their community. It is a great opportunity for those ambitious and determined students who do not want to be just part of a system but are motivated to bring real change by innovating new ideas, create new paths and lead others in a new direction.

This platform will provide them with the necessary and valuable professional & expert support that will help them pursue their dreams. National Tinkering Awards 2021 will bring them that recognition and industry support to uplift their entrepreneurial spirit by providing them tech-mentorship and guidance.

What kind of entries are invited to the National Tinkering Awards 2021?

National Tinkering Awards 2021, welcoming fresh and original technology ideas of the students standing on any stage. Those ideas can be taken forward for further developments by the industry experts available to support the idea owners in the best possible manner. Ideas must be capable enough to resolve a particular challenge in your community, or in a particular industry, and must have a defined target audience.

Your Ideas can be anywhere from hardware machines to software application, with an aim to giving back to society. Students are encouraged to submit their start-up ideas in a properly documented manner along with their current execution plans or how they can be executed in the future.

Till when can I apply for National Tinkering Awards 2021?

Entries will be accepted till 15th July 2021

What is the Eligibility criteria?

Students in grades 10th, 11th, 12th and those passing out from 12th from any board/council from across India are eligible to participate in National Tinkering Awards 2021

How do I share/submit my project ideas?

You need to submit your project idea in the Part 2 of the Registration Portal anytime before the deadline using same login credentials. Remember these points before you submit:

  1. Download the idea submission template in Part 2, and prepare your report/presentation/video offline
  2. Once ready with your report/presentation/video, login and answer, verify and submit all questions in Part 2
  3. Report/Presentations/Videos once submitted cannot edited again

Are there any limitations to the number of project idea submissions?

We encourage you to submit as many ideas as your young, lively & innovative minds can come up with. There is no bar or limitations to the number of ideas for any participants.

Can submissions be made in a team or individually?

The idea is to find out unique, scalable & viable ideas. You can choose to form your own teams or submit individually.

Any guidelines for team formation?

Teams are allowed to be formed among participants only. No parents/guardians/teachers/external mentors are allowed. Students from different schools can also form teams.

Any separate competition or awards for team participants or individuals?

No. Ideas compete with Ideas. They might belong to a team or an individual.

Any specific age/grade limits for the participants?

Only students in grades 10, 11, 12, passing out from 12 can be the participants. 

Any specific educational background required for the participants?

No. There is no specific educational background required. Students from any stream – science, arts, commerce or humanities can participate with innovative project ideas.

Any particular format to document the project for before submission?

No, there is no such specific format. But, participants need to take care of certain elements to be included in the project before final submission. Those are as below:

  1. Name of the Participant(s)
  2. Grade of the Participant(s)
  3. School of the Participant(s)
  4. Contact Number of the Participant(s)
  5. Address of the Participant(s)
  6. Title of the project(s)
  7. A detailed description of the project(s)
  8. Images/Videos/Diagrams/Figures etc. explaining the project’s uniqueness &
  9. Declaration of ownership of the project idea owner(s) that it is been solely curated without any external support

Does my project need to be in the execution stage?

No. Even the basic innovation idea is acceptable for submission. We will support selected ideas to reach its execution stage.

When will the Winners be announced?

The tentative date for announcing the Winners is 2nd July 2021

Is there any other support for the winners or non-winners with good ideas?

You can connect with the experts at Rishihood University for any future support that you might require to cultivate your idea.

Application Process

The application form for National Tinkering Awards 2021 consists of 2 parts. Part 1 includes basic registration and Part 2 requires details about the idea/solution you are submitting. Here are the steps to complete your application,

  1. Register below, and complete Part 1 of the form
  2. You can login and submit your idea/solution in the Part 2 anytime before the deadline using same login credentials
  3. Download the idea submission template in Part 2, and prepare your report/presentation/video offline
  4. Once you’re ready with your report/presentation/video, login and answer, verify and submit all questions in Part 2
  5. Report/Presentations/Videos once submitted cannot edited again
Selection Criteria
  • Jury Points – 70%
    1. Novelty (10%) – Innovative, Unique and Original Ideas
    2. Technology and User Experience (20%) – Tinkering with futuristic technologies and user friendliness of the solution
    3. Tangible Impact (15%) – Serving masses with tangible benefits
    4. Financial Viability (10%) – Affordable, sustainable and profitable
    5. Maker (15%) – Having desired skill sets, certifications and past recognitions (if any)
  • People’s Choice – 30%
    1. Social Share (10%) – Publish on social media channels like FB/Instagram or YouTube with hashtag #nta2021 
    2. Reach & Engagements (20%) – Total views, likes, comments and shares by other people of the original post
