Prof. (Dr.) Michael J. Barnes began his academic career as Assistant Dean for Action Learning & Corporate Liaison at the Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University (Ohio), and later MBA Director for the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. He was named inaugural John F. Fiedler/BorgWarner Endowed Chair in Global Business Studies at Kent State University, Ohio, USA teaching BBA/MBA finance, economics, global strategy, and international business. Before entering academia in 2000, Michael worked in senior executive positions in international banking – first for Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. in New York, then with J Henry Schroder Wagg & Co. in London, The World Bank in Washington DC, Lazard Brothers, Fuji International Finance, and The Industrial Bank of Japan – all in London UK; and at Union Bank of Switzerland headquarters in Zurich.
Previously he was Dean of the School of Entrepreneurship & Management Studies at SRM University – Andhra Pradesh, and Director of the Faculty of Management, SRM Institute of Science & Technology in Chennai. Prof. Barnes has also served as Academic Dean for the Global MBA Programme at S.P. Jain School of Global Management, in the twin campuses of Dubai /Singapore.
As founding Dean and Professor of Management of Jindal Global Business School at OP Jindal Global University, Michael later returned as Professor of Jindal Global Law School teaching finance & management, and Director of the University Office of Alumni & Development. Subsequently, he was named as the founding Dean of Jindal School of Banking & Finance. In between times, he was Principal and Chief Academic Officer, The British College in Kathmandu, Nepal, and founding Dean and Professor of the School of Business & Economics at Tan Tao University in Vietnam, close to Ho Chi Minh City.
