S.P. Kothari is the Gordon Y Billard Professor of Accounting and Finance at MIT’s Sloan School of Management. With extensive experience across government, academia, and industry, he is well-positioned to drive forward-thinking approaches at Rishihood’s School of Entrepreneurship, elevating its impact and global standing.
Kothari is an expert in strategic policy, securities regulation, auditing, and corporate governance. His notable positions include Chief Economist and Director of the Division of Economic and Risk Analysis at the US SEC (2019–2021) and Global Head of Equity Research for Barclays Global Investors.
He has also held senior roles at MIT Sloan, including Deputy Dean, and served on the boards of institutions like Bombay Stock Exchange.
He holds a BS from BITS Pilani, an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad, and a PhD from the University of Iowa. A recipient of India’s prestigious Padma Shri in 2020, Kothari has also been awarded honorary doctorates from top institutions and the American Accounting Association’s Distinguished Contributions to Accounting Literature award.
