We’ve all had those moments. You’re trying to sign up for an event, book your spot for that guest lecture, or just browse through your favorite app, and suddenly… nothing works. Buttons don’t click, pages don’t load, and you’re stuck wondering if you’re the problem or if technology just hates you.
Welcome to the wild world of UI UX design! It’s that invisible force that can make or break your digital experience. Here at Rishihood University, we know technology is more than just screens and codes—it’s about creating human experiences that are smooth, intuitive, and, dare we say, delightful.
Whether you’re a prospective student exploring the endless possibilities in design, a current student diving deep into projects, or a faculty member guiding our next-gen thinkers, this blog is for you. So, grab your chai, settle in, and let’s chat about the journey of UI UX design—past, present, and future!
Picture this: It’s the 80s. Hair is big, fashion is bold, and computers? Well, they’re giant, clunky boxes with screens that stare back at you like the void. Back then, using a computer wasn’t just a task—it was a challenge. You had to type out specific commands like a wizard casting spells, hoping the computer would do what you wanted. This was the era of Command Line Interfaces (CLI).
For those of us who think twice about asking Siri to set an alarm, imagine having to type out a line like C:\>COPY A:*.* B: just to move some files around. It was efficient for tech wizards, but for the rest of us? A total headache.
Then came a little thing called the Graphical User Interface (GUI). It was like someone finally added a GPS to our digital lives. Instead of typing commands, you could click on icons, drag files, and open windows. Apple’s Macintosh and Microsoft’s Windows made it so even your grandparents could use a computer (sort of).
Now, let’s fast forward to the 90s. The internet was like a new planet, and everyone was trying to stake their claim. Websites were popping up left and right, but let’s be real—they weren’t exactly pretty. Think neon text on clashing backgrounds, spinning GIFs, and those awful “under construction” signs.
This was the wild west of web design. There were no rules, just a lot of creativity (and chaos). But as more people started surfing the web, designers realized that websites needed to be more than just flashy—they needed to be user-friendly. That’s when the focus shifted to making digital spaces not just functional but enjoyable to navigate.
And let’s be honest, we’ve all had that one professor’s website that looks like it hasn’t been updated since dial-up was a thing (no shade, just facts).
Remember the first time you got a smartphone? The excitement of tapping and swiping was like discovering magic. In 2007, Apple dropped the iPhone bomb, and suddenly everything we thought we knew about design was flipped upside down.
Gone were the days of tiny, pixelated buttons squeezed onto screens. Designers had to rethink everything—how we touch, swipe, pinch, and zoom. This was the era of mobile-first design, where everything needed to work on the palm-sized screens we’re all glued to.
Imagine you’re designing an app for Rishihood’s campus activities. You want it to be so intuitive that even your sleep-deprived, coffee-fueled self can navigate it at 3 AM. That’s the power of great mobile design—it just works without making you think.
Now that we’re all living in the 2020s, UI UX design has become a blend of art, science, and a sprinkle of magic. It’s not just about making things look good; it’s about making them feel right. Here are some of the coolest trends happening right now that Rishihood’s future designers should definitely keep an eye on:

Alright, so where do we go from here? The future of design is as exciting as it is unpredictable. Here are a few trends that might just change the game:
At Rishihood, we’re all about empowering our students to be the change-makers of tomorrow. Whether you’re just starting your journey into the world of UI/UX or you’re a faculty member nurturing these creative minds, there’s a place for you in this evolving field.

So, to all the learners and educators here—are you ready to create the next generation of digital experiences? Whether you’re designing the next big app or rethinking how we learn, the possibilities are endless. Let’s shape the future, one pixel at a time
