BBA Business Analytics Career Roadmap
BBA Business Analytics Career Roadmap

TL;DR

Yes, if you actively learn tools like Excel, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, and Python, and build real-world projects during your course. A degree helps, but skills and hands-on experience matter more. Data Analytics focuses on “What happened and why?”, helping businesses with insights and decision-making. Data Science goes further to predict future trends and build models using advanced coding and AI techniques. Absolutely. Many BBA students become Data Analysts. What matters is how much you practice tools like Excel, SQL, and Python, and whether you can build dashboards and present insights from real data.

Congrats on surviving your board exam .Now that you have completed it, the next question comes is what should you do and since you click on this website there’s a high chance that you want to do business analytics so this blog is about the career roadmap for data analytics because why not ?

Imagine if Sherlock Holmes worked in corporate

Instead of solving murders, he’s like:

  • Why did our sales drop last quarter?

  • Which marketing campaign worked best?

  • What products should we launch next?

That’s Data Analytics.

It’s the science of using data to make better business decisions. You take data or numbers which are usually sales, customer feedback, website clicks, etc and clean them up, analyze patterns, and help companies.

Data Analytics combines:

  1. Data Collection

  2. Data Cleaning & Processing

  3. Statistical Analysis

  4. Predictive Modelling

  5. Data-Driven Decisions

Data Analytics is literally used everywhere like

  1. Marketing:To know which ad campaigns really worked?

  2. Operations

  3. Finance

  4. HR: Who’s likely to leave the company next?

That’s Business Analytics.

But there’s this one branch which people often get confused with. It’s data science. While Data Analytics is “What happened and why?”Data Science is more like “What could happen and how do we make it happen?”

Data analysts analyse data to find trends and patterns while using tools as excel and power bi to make visual dashboards to clear business answers.

So how do you break into Data analytics?

Stage 0: What is Data Analytics?

Every data analyst started here.

Your Goal to Understand what data analytics really is and whether it’s for you.
I would suggest you to Watch YouTube videos of Kevin Stratvert, Alex The Analyst and similar regarding this topic. You can also take introductory free intro courses like Google Data Analytics on Coursera to get the taste of it.

Stage 1: Learning Analytics with a good BBA Program

This is where your training arc starts. Learning excel is the most important one. Data management is also important , that’s why you need to learn sql. Alex the analyst has a gold playlist on this which you can prefer watching.

Next comes the Data Visualization. It’s the part where you help other people understand the data through graphs and visuals. For this learn Tableau and Power BI.

Now the part where most people hate is the maths part. You don’t have to dig too deep into it , just the basic stuff like knowing basic statistics like what “mean,” “median,” “correlation,” and “regression” actually mean.

And to top it all up, Python. There are so many free courses on youtube that teach great python stuff

Stage 2: Building Projects in Data Analytics in BBA course

Binge watching lectures is the easiest step of this process. This stage is the hardest. It’s where you start building stuff. Some examples would be to Analyze sales data for a fake company, visualize COVID trends with Tableau,Scrape and clean Twitter data using Python or Build dashboards for your personal expenses.

There are tons of projects on youtube available too.

Personally I would recommend Maven Analytics portfolio videos . They are gold standards.

After you have gain confidence on your works, then comes the final stage,

Stage 3: Searching your first Internship

Your first job title might be Data Analyst Intern or Business Analyst. You can use linkedin, but I personally would recommend wellfound . It’s one of the best platforms for internships and jobs. It’s usually at this stage, a bba degree is highly valuable and appreciated. If you are in a good bba college, this stage is easy as the college directly helps in the placements.

But then the next question comes: is a bba degree necessary for data analyst jobs? Like won’t it be better to do a Btech degree in Data Science? They both have data in it, won’t Data science degree be performed more as compared to just bba in data analytics?

Honestly A BTech helps you get data analyst jobs, but what you do during the degree matters more than the degree itself. If You can actually learn SQL, Excel, Python, statistics, and dashboard tools like Power BI or Tableau and build projects that show you can clean, analyze, and visualize data and you intern to get some real-world dirty-data experience, then you don’t even need a degree to begin with!!

But no, that’s not how it goes , right?! Most of the time you just passively attend classes and before you even know it, boom, placement day.Your BTech is in an unrelated field like civil or mechanical and you’ve done zero analytics-related work.

So Why do companies like hiring BTech grads for data roles?

It’s Because You’re expected to have technical skills.

But if you still want to do btech then it would be better to do it in Btech in data science

Why BBA Data Analytics or Btech in Data Science

Because Data Science is basically Data Analytics with way more control over the trends. In Data Analytics You help businesses understand what happened and why.but in Data Science You help businesses predict what’s coming and predict the future trends and patterns .

Employers love people who can solve problems before they exist.

That’s why data scientists earn 25–40% more on average.

If you learn data science, you can not only do Data Analyst jobs or Business Analyst jobs but also be a
Machine Learning Engineer or AI Researcher

And of course,Data Scientist

With AI and automation growing, data scientists are the ones modelling the future  while analysts are the ones reporting on it. While Data Analytics mostly stays in Excel and Power BI,

Data Science dives way too deep into Python libraries like Scikit-learn & Deep Learning
If you love playing with coding, data science is way better.

Most degrees focus either on business or tech.

But our BTech in Data Science and Business is a mixture of btech and bba.

We know there are students who want to do business but are insecure of doing bba course so they end up doing btech. We didn’t want students to just have technical knowledge. We want our students to be involved in the business side of it as well. That’s why we provide both data science and business specialization in our btech degree.

Our program is Built with KPMG,

One of the Big 4. Our program is

50% Business + 50% Tech.  You’re not just a Python nerd or just a marketing bro,You actually build stuff from dashboards to data models.

But we know internships are important. That’s the reason we have a mandatory 6 months internship period so that their searching stage is sorted out.

The thing with an internship is , after you complete it, you get a sudden surge of confidence. This results in mostly students wanting to do their own thing. We have a maker’s fund. It gives access to $5 million for our student’s startup.

This results in them already having built companies like our student Parth, whose company is already valued at 1 Crore. A freshman who’s still in first year, has his startup incubated by the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad!!

So if you are still confused between BBA or BTech, at least you have one option available
