Ashok Goel Library

On May 5, 2023, Rishihood University inaugurated The Ashok Goel Library, coinciding with Buddha Purnima, as an integral part of their campus. Notably, this library stands out as it is the first instance of a public library being integrated within a private university. The library’s purpose extends beyond serving the Rishihood University community to also cater to the residents of Sonipat and Delhi NCR, reflecting the university’s commitment to community service and accessible education.

The Ashok Goel Library, named after its benefactor, Mr Ashok Goel, a renowned global entrepreneur with roots in Hissar, Haryana, showcases a diverse collection of books spanning academic resources, literature, history, and various other genres. Furthermore, the library offers a comprehensive digital collection that is accessible to all members, featuring e-books, journals, and other online resources.

Designed to provide an ideal environment for learning and research, the library is equipped with comfortable seating, study tables, discussion and project rooms, computer stations, an outdoor zone, and a spacious reading hall. Knowledgeable library staff members are readily available to assist users in locating resources, navigating databases, and accessing online materials.

In addition to its impressive collection and state-of-the-art facilities, the library plans to host a range of community engagement programs. These include talks with renowned authors, writing workshops, book fairs and exhibitions, and various cultural and educational activities. By organizing such events, the library aims to foster intellectual and creative pursuits, promote literacy, and encourage a sense of belonging and connection within the community.

The inauguration of The Ashok Goel Library at Rishihood University marks a significant step towards creating a collaborative and inclusive learning environment, where knowledge and resources are accessible to all, and the pursuit of education is celebrated.

Ashok Goel Library Rules

General Rules

● All Faculty, Administrative Staff and Learners of Rishihood University are registered members of the Ashok Goel Library and are allowed to use the library privileges. Members should always carry their ID cards while using the library.

● Silence must always be observed inside the library.

● Talking on the phone or participating in online meetings is not permitted inside the library. All mobile phones should be put on silent mode in the library.

● Borrowers must carefully inspect the physical condition of the book before borrowing.

● Members are personally responsible for books issued against their ID cards.

● Members must present their ID cards when entering the library, borrowing books and journals, and whenever asked to do so by the library staff.

● There are designated project rooms for group work and academic interactions. These rooms P-1 to P-5 may be used for common group studies by 3 to 4 learners together belonging to the same course. However, a single learner is not permitted in these rooms.

● All personal belongings should be deposited at the Property Counter at the member’s own risk.

● Every member must sign the register available at the entrance.

● Members can browse the books as open access is provided in the library. Once books are taken off the shelves, they should be kept on the designated tables and not placed back onto the shelves to avoid malposition.

● Readers should not write in, mark, tear, scratch, disfigure or damage books and furniture in the library.

● Internet connection will not be provided on personal laptops brought into the library. However, internet-enabled computers are available for use. The library will not be responsible for the loss of personal laptops.

● Chewing tobacco/pan/gum, spitting, smoking, eating, sleeping, and talking loudly are strictly prohibited in the library.

● Books and novels should not be read in the digital and journal section of the library. The reading hall should be used for this purpose.

● Any library material is to be taken out of the library only with due permission.

● Any violation of the library rules and regulations may result in the loss of library privileges including cancellation of membership.

● The decision of the Vice-Chancellor, Rishihood University in all matters shall be final and binding.

● The University Librarian, with the approval of the Library Committee, reserves the right to add, delete, alter, or modify any of the above rules as required.

Procedure for Membership:

Rishihood Team comprising the Faculty, Administrative Staff and Learners are eligible for library membership, free of cost. Registered members can borrow books from the library using personalized Smart Cards issued by the library. The books may be reissued on the due date.

Lending Rules and Restrictions

Circulation rules:

● Periodicals are for reference and must be read in the library only. They will not be issued.

● Learners can borrow a maximum of 03 (three) books for a period of 15 (fifteen) days.

● Faculty members can borrow a maximum of 06 (six) books per semester.

● Research Scholars can borrow a maximum of 04 (four) books for a period of 15 (fifteen) days.

● Administrative (Non-teaching) staff can borrow a maximum of 02 (two) books for a period of 15 (fifteen) days.

● Reference books can only be borrowed overnight in exceptional circumstances with the recommendation of the Dean of the School.

● Learners can reserve books at the circulation counter if the respective books are already issued.

● Reference books, project reports, thesis (dissertations), periodicals, and bound journals are not issued to members. They can be referred to within the library premises.

● Project reports and dissertations submitted within the last five years are available for reference within the library. Written permission from the Dean of the School concerned is required in such cases.

● Project reports and dissertations cannot be photocopied.

● The University Librarian reserves the right to recall any book issued to the borrower, even before the due date of return, if necessary.

● At the end of every academic session, members must obtain a “No Dues Certificate” from the University Librarian; failure to do so will result in the loss of library membership.

● Borrowers are responsible for safely returning the books to the library. In case of damage, members will have to replace the lost book with a new one or pay the new cost of the lost book/document.

● Stealing or damaging library property or misbehavior with library staff will be considered acts of indiscipline and will result in disciplinary action which may include fines, and cancellation of library membership.

● The library staff is authorized to check the bags and belongings of any member, if needed.

● Non-members or visitors are not permitted to use the library without the permission of the University Librarian.

Late Book Fine (Overdue charges):

● Books returned after the due date will incur overdue charges. For general books and novels, the overdue charges will be ` 5.00 (rupees five only) per day.

● If a member fails to return a book within 07 (seven) days after the stipulated time, it will be considered lost/purchased by the member. The price of the book will be automatically deducted from their pay bill/security deposit.

● If a book is lost, the actual market cost of the book at that time along with an amount of ` 100.00 (rupees one hundred only) as processing charge per book will be levied from the member.

Clearance certificate:

Individuals (Staff members and Learners) leaving Rishihood University must return all library books/journals/documents, settle any dues or fines, and obtain a clearance certificate from the library.

Photocopying:

The library provides photocopying facilities to its users. The following guidelines should be observed:

● Cover-to-cover photocopying of copyrighted documents is not permissible.

● Photocopying from library books/journals should be kept to a minimum. Project codes should be mentioned in the photocopying requests. Learners using this facility are required to pay photocopying charges.

● Photocopying charges are ` 2.00 (rupees two only) per page.

Interlibrary loan & Institutional membership:

The Rishihood University library has inter-library loan arrangements with important libraries in NCR Delhi through the DELNET library. The following rules apply:

● Requests for borrowing documents not available in Rishihood University or other libraries must be made in writing to the library.

● Borrowed books from other libraries must be returned within a week. No fresh loan forms will be issued until the user’s previous inter-library loan account has been settled.

● Fines will be applicable after 15 (fifteen) days from the date of issue of the inter-library loan form by Rishihood University Library if the due date is not specified by the lending library.

● Users must follow the rules and regulations of the lending library.

Resource suggestion:

● Users can send requests for new books, journals, magazines, e-resources, databases, CDs, or other information resources to the library. The maximum ordering details should be provided. Orders can be placed via email or recommendation form.

A reasonable time for procurement and technical processing of the books i.e., 03 (three) and 08 (eight) weeks for Indian and International books respectively will have to be provided. Purchase of documents directly by individuals is discouraged. Duplicate copies are not accepted for the collection.

Cyber/Repository/E-resource/Ebooks/Digital Library Rules

● The Cyber Library is exclusively for academic purposes.

● Online chatting in the Cyber Library is not allowed.

● Users are not allowed to bring food or drinks into the Cyber Library area.

● Readers must carry their Library ID card while using the Cyber Library and show it upon demand.

● Members should not share their net access ID and Password with others.

● Changing the settings and display of computers in the Cyber Library is not allowed.

● Playing games on computers/laptops/iPad, etc is strictly prohibited in the entire library premises.

● Members should take care of their pen drives, CD/DVD ROMs, cell phones, wallets, etc.

● Browsing dating, social networking, and pornographic websites is strictly prohibited, and strict disciplinary action will be taken against defaulters.

Working Hours of Library

The library is open on all working days except national and prescribed holidays. In case of changes in the schedule, the same will be notified well in advance.

Monday to Friday:
09:00 AM – 07:30 PM (FOR MEMBERS)
09:00 AM – 08:00 PM (FOR RISHIHOOD TEAM AND LEARNERS)

Saturday:

9:30 AM to 5:00 PM (FOR MEMBERS, AND RISHIHOOD TEAM AND LEARNERS)
